Franco Carlotto, a six-time Mr. World Fitness champion, offers the following straightforward advice to readers of The Fit Press blog:
Not all fruit is equal.
We all grew up singing “I like to eat, eat, eat apples and bananas,” but little did we know that apples are actually the better choice. Bananas are an exotic fruit with more calories and carbohydrates.
Tip: Eat exotic fruits (fruit found in southern climates) sparingly.
Fat-free foods won’t make you fat free.
Fat-free foods are a great way to avoid fat, but they’re usually loaded with bad carbs. And bad carbs are usually turned into fat.
Tip: Check nutrition labels. Most fat-free products have been substituted with sugar and carbs.
Timing is everything.
Meals should get smaller and contain fewer carbohydrates as the day goes on. Most carbs should be eaten in the morning, and you should stick to veggies and protein at night.
Tip: Set your alarm on your phone for every 2-3 hours so you won’t miss any snacks or meals.
